CUISINE IN MALAYSIA



 Hi everybody, meet me again in a new entry for my blog. So, today I will tell you about the special cuisine in Malaysia. As we know, when we wants to go to any countries we will try the special foods in that country. So, today I will tell you about the special food in Malaysia.

Malaysia is the paradise of  foods

Since Malaysia has 3 main races, I will tell you the traditional foods for these 3 main races. First of all I will tell my readers about the traditional foods of Malay race. Actually, there are lots of traditional foods for Malay race. But, in this entry I will tell you 5 main traditional foods of Malay race. Firstly, it is nasi lemak. Nasi lemak consist of rice, sambal ikan bilis, anchovies fried, nuts fried, slices of cucumber and ‘telur goreng’ or ‘telur rebus. It was served in a plate to the customers. The rice was cooked with the ‘santan’ from a coconut to give a different test of the rice. Finally the rice was served with all the ingredients on the same plate.

Next is rendang. It’s either rendang daging (meat) or rendang ayam (chicken). Usually you can test this rendang during Hari Raya Puasa festival. It is the main dishes for hari raya festival. Usually the rendang was served with ‘ketupat’, ‘nasi impit’, and rice. People can eat the rendang with these any three main foods. Sometimes you can it the reading without any three main foods. This is because it is very delicious to eat the rending without the main foods. Actually, rendang come from Sumatra and well-known among Minangkabau people. From here it was spread until the peninsular of Malaysia and it has become one of the Malay’s traditional foods.

Lastly is Nasi Kerabu. Nasi kerabu is famous in east-coast peninsular Malaysia which is Terengganu, Kelantan and Pahang. It is also famous in Thailand and known as khāoyam.  
Nasi kerabu is from Kelantan. Usually people in Terengganu, Kelantan and Pahang will eat the nasi kerabu for their breakfast and some of them will eat it for their lunch or dinner. Nasi kerabu was served with ulam, sambal, telur masin and budu. You also can eat with ayam goreng, solok lada, ikan goreng and daging bakar. The rice of nasi kerabu is different from other rice because it has color. Usually the color of the rice is blue. But you also can find in others color such as yellow, white and black. So, don’t be surprised if you find this kind of rice in east-cost peninsular Malaysia after read this blog

Just now I already told you about Malay’s traditional food; let’s proceed with chines’ food.  Firstly I will explain to you about the traditional Chinese food which is Dim Sum. There are about 2000 types of Dim sum since 10 centuries. Nowadays, there are some restaurants that manage to sell 100 types of Dim sum for their customers. For your information, Dim sum suitable to serve for breakfast. Usually, Chinese people will eat the Dim Sum with ‘the china’ for their breakfast. If you notice, the structure of dim sum is very small and cute. The dim sum is small because it will ease the people to eat it. Dim sum means touch, this is the reason why it is small and the structure of the dim sum is so cute and people who made it must do it properly. Usually, it was been keep in the bamboo basket to make sure that the dim sum will always warm and it will taste delicious once its enter your mouth.

Secondly is Hokkien Mee. There are two types of Hokkien Mee in Malaysia which are Hokkien Char Mee (Hokkien friend noodles) and Hokkien Hae Mee (Hokkien prawn noodles). Usually, Hokkien Mee consist of egg noodles and rice noodles stir-fried with egg, slices of pork, prawns and squid, and served and garnished with vegetables, small pieces of lard, sambal sauce and lime. Hokkien Mee was served during any meal time but usually people will eat Hokkien Mee for dinner or lunch. Sometimes people it for branch or during huge night.

Finally is Yee Sang.  Yee Sang is one of Chinese traditional and was served during Chinese New Year Festival. At the beginning one will bring a huge dish of shredded vegetables in a rainbow of colors – ingredients include radish, carrot, red peppers, and pickled ginger – along with a plate of raw fish (usually salmon) and various other condiments. All the ingredients will be mix-up using the chopstick by people who stand around the huge plate. For Chinese people, they will mix the ingredients higher to make sure that they can get more money in future.

Okay so you already know about chines traditional food right? Now, let’s proceed with Indian traditional food. Firstly is Roti Canai. The main ingredient in this Roti Canai is flour. Usually, the seller will mix the flour with margarine and some salt and sugar. In Malaysia, Indian will eat Roti canai for their breakfast or for their dinner. There are many types of roti canai such as roti telur, roti sardin, roti bawang and etc. Nowadays not only Indian will eat roti canai, most of Malay people prefer to eat roti canai for their breakfast.

Secondly is ‘Nasi Daun Pisang’. Nasi Daun Pisang was served on a banana leaf with a few vegetable. Usually the seller will put the leaf first. After that the seller will put a hot rice on the leaf and the seller will ask the customers a few vegetable dishes to be served on the same leaf. After that they will ask the customers to choose a few chicken dishes, meat dishes and fish dishes to be put on the leaf. Indian people will eat this Nasi Daun Pisang for their lunch. Sometimes they will serve Nasi Daun Pisang during wedding ceremony for their guests.

Thirdly is Muruku. Muruku was served by Indian during Deepavali festival. They will serve it in a beautiful former cake on a table in their living room. Murukku is typically made from a mixture of urad and rice flour, salt, and flavorings such as chili, asafoetida, ajawain, cumin and other spices.
